Dave johnson the LMA chairman pulled off an amazing save when the access hatch popped open on the take off run and acted like a kite as the model turned across wind away from the flight line. Dave retracted the under carriage as soon as possible and you can see him fighting the effects of the strong wind acting on the fully open hatch, as soon as he turned onto finals he dropped the undercarriage and pulled off a brilliant landing fighting the wind effects all the way!
Terry mason the owner / builder sent this info on the model - she is a vickers armstrong VC-10 k3 RAF tanker modeled on aircraft ZA147, she has a wing span of 4.9 mtrs and a length of 5.75 mtrs, she weighs in at 63 kgs and is powered by four Wren super sport turbines of 18 kg thrust each!
She was designed from British Aerospace drawings and constructed from balsa & ply & covered in fiberglass cloth coated with epoxy resin, Terry uses all Futaba radio with four receivers providing control redundancy, she first flew on 25th july 2012 at Woodford airfield.
Filmed at an rc model aircraft show held at the old US airbase at Rougham, situated off J45 on the A14 east of Bury St.Edmunds ip30 9nd on 24/25-5-2014, attended by the large model association.
