The most impressive plane I could see during this Slovenian F3F cup was the "Black Mamba" of Stefan Fraundorfer. This is a personal project for which Stefan did the design and the CAD drawing, working with Max Steidle for the airfoils (7.5% thickness at the root, 240mm chord), for a wingspan of 2940mm. Stefan also made the CNC milling, the moulds, and the moulding !!
Discussing with Stefan, the next evolution planned is to engrave the wing surface (so the reason of the entire black color) with laser to obtain a shark skin effect: For the note, the shark skin effect consist in the reduction of the fluid drag during swimming (flying in case of the Black Mamba!) at fast speeds. The presence of surface micro structure on the skin surface is responsible for this effect.
A very interesting project to follow in order to see results !
The Black Mamba in its current state is already very fast both in straight line and turn. You can judge by yourself watching the following video of a 34,95 sec run (second round of the competition).
