Þá er frumgerðin af 50% KA-60 frá Bill Hempel komin í loftið. Dráttarvélin var 60% Cub frá BH.
I just returned home from the RC field with both my airplanes intact! It was a great day and I am finally home resting from the big push to get the KA-6 flying.
We had (2) successful flights today with the big bird. The first flight was 8 minutes and the second flight was about 18 minutes. At the end of the 2nd flight I actually did some loops with the airplane with different speeds and watched the model closely for wing flex, flutter, etc.... No issues at all! The airplane is a winner!
Spoilers: This prototype has both upper and lower spoilers.... I am going to change the production for upper ones only. There is no need for the amount of breaking this airplane has with (4) spoilers total, plus the mechanical set up to get everything operating correctly was a major pain! Trust me: (1) spoiler each side will be fine. Any objections? (no? Good). Pictures will be coming shortly. My buddy's wife had the camera and I hope to get some in flight shots for you guys.
The airplane fly's GREAT! Only 2 clicks of down trim was all that was needed. The 60% Clipped wing Cub didnt even know there was a 45 lb. glider behind it. We towed for about 2-3 minutes and we were pleanty high.
We ended up putting about 8 pounds of lead in the front so with glue it was probabbly closer to 9 pounds of weight. Best guess on the flying weight is 45 lbs.
