Og til gamans er hérna frásögn austurríska liðsstjórans frá deginum í dag.
Today, 06:15am... The alarm clock rings, I go down to the kitchen and put up the coffee for the troop. Wind noises penetrate from outside. A short look out towards the turbulator brings a smile to my face: It's windy... and not a little bit. The obligatory check of the Windfinder report confirms it!
I still cook Ham&Eggs quickly while the rest of the troop slowly emerges. At 08:00am the WhatsApp message from CD Armin Hortzitz comes as planned: Today Dranske, Turbulator. Start of the 3rd group from the 6th round at 09:00am. The whole team is highly motivated and excited. After all, the current measured values show 20m/s wind from west. We walk forward to the edge, it is not far from our accommodation.
Armin and his team are already on site and busy at work. We also build our models. A quick look from the edge... You can really lean against the wind. It comes about 5-10° from the left. Oh yeah... The mood is good, very good. Not only with us, also with the other teams. That's what we all waited for! So almost everybody... a few pilots you can already see the respect for this edge and the wind.
Finally it starts! Fernando of the Spaniards is the first one to go and open group 3. The whole field of participants stands behind him and looks spellbound at his model. It's brutal how it goes, but Fernando knows what to do and conjures up a fabulous 33 time. Maybe he could have put in a few more pieces of ballast. Tofo is the next... Tobi throws his Pit2. The pumpers are violent, the entry height excellent... Here we go; entry from the left... Very nice to see how he also has his model under control. I didn't hear it exactly, but I think he had a 32sec flight. Now it's Philipp's turn. A power throw from Lukas, the last pump goes into orbit. Philipp enters the course... a madness! The beepers come on the running band.... Peep... Peep... Peep Peep... Peeeeeep... 28 seconds! Awesome! This should be the 1000 in the group. Very good!
The 7th round is started immediately. The organisation team is working perfectly. What should I say much. Not every model survives this round. Some hit the edge, one catches the shrub in the right turn, but everything only material damage. The favourites now show all their skills. It's our Stefan's turn and a murderous 27sec flight brings him into the top 10. Philipp and Lukas outdo each other and already scratch the world record. But also Tofo, Sebastien and Markus Meissner don't show any nerves and stay close to our guys. It looks similar in round 8 and 9. We'll make another round today. Three Austrians among the first 4! The measuring station gives its best. Peep... Peep... Peep... Peeeep....
06:15am, the alarm clock rings, I go down to the kitchen and put up the coffee for the troop. No wind noises penetrate from outside. A short look out towards the turbulator unfortunately doesn't put a smile on my face: It doesn't wind.... The sun is shining, it is warm and calm. The obligatory check of the Windfinder report confirms it: We won't be flying that fast today. And if we do, then we won't be flying at all on the turbulator.
At 08:00am the WhatsApp message from CD Armin Hortzitz arrives as planned: No wind, hold ready, next info comes at 11am. In fact this comes then also. We meet at 12 o'clock in Vitt to collect stones and start at 12:30 with group 2 from round 6. Actually we could only start in the late afternoon at about 4m/s. We managed the group 2. The 3rd group unfortunately did not go through any more, because the wind fell asleep again. Conclusion: Today we are as smart as yesterday...
But we can still dream!
